Maintenance Check of an Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger

Are you considering installing an electric vehicle (EV) charger in your homes, adding multiple chargers to your company’s employee parking lot, or investing in commercial charging stations? Well, whatever you are here for, consider more than the initial costs; you also need to check for its maintenance expenses.

Above the purchase, installation, and ongoing energy expenditures, you should regard the money and time spent on maintaining your charging station or device. How can you care for and keep your Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger in optimum condition? Check out the list below for guidelines on how to do so.

1. Keeping the EV charger clean

Keep the parking space neat and the charger’s surface free of dust and foreign objects.

2. Always check the charger for damage

Inspect if the indicator light is working. Pay extra attention to any damage on the display screen, and have it repaired immediately. Next, check if the circuit breaker and lightning arrester are damaged. You can touch the charger’s surface with your hand to feel if the temperature is too high. Press the leakage test button in the charger to see if the circuit breaker can automatically be disconnected.

3. Inspecting the external charging cable

Scrutinize if there is damage to the charger’s power supply, door lock, wire interface, etc.

4. Assessing the control and electrical systems

Check for damage or aging within the internal equipment of every control circuit board. See if the indicators are within their normal range.

5. During charging operation

When the charger is running, it can be judged by the device’s sound, whether the charger is typically pulled in and whether the radiator is usually working.

General maintenance schedule

While the charging device or station may not show signs of requiring repair, it is still best to be proactive in maintaining your EV charging devices according to the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule.
